This gilt-bronze statuette of Avalokitesvara discovered at a temple site in Gyuam-myeon, Buyeo, features a bejeweled headgear with a miniature Buddha carved at the front center, the right arm raised to shoulder height with a treasure pearl held between the thumb and index finger, and rounded plump face with half-closed eyes and tightly sealed, but faintly smiling, lips. It is also characterized by a slender body rendered to have perfect balance and proportion covered by gently draped robe, and a long beaded ornament hung down to the knees. With the elaborate expression of the volume and curves of the body which characterizes the bodhisattva statues of Baekje in the early 7th century, this gilt-bronze statuette provides a fine example of the advanced artistic techniques and acute aesthetic sensibilities of Baekje artists.
